At Roman Chiropractic & Rehab, we offer a number of approaches to helping you achieve optimum health. Dr. Roman will assess your case, discuss treatments with you, and lay out a proposed course of treatment. Here is a brief overview of the therapeutic modalities we offer:
Although it looks similar to manual therapies, this treatment should be practiced only by those with the training and licenses to do it. By leveraging pressure, the doctor strategically moves muscles and joints (especially the spine) into better alignment. When the spine is properly aligned, the rest of the body is free to move as intended.
With IASTM, musculoskeletal injuries are treated using tools to apply pressure against the skin. These repetitive strokes pull, stretch, and release “scarring” in the body’s connective tissue. This creates a controlled inflammation, causing the connective tissue (fascia) to heal in a more orderly manner. By reducing the severity of fascia adhesions, IASTM can improve mobility and reduce pain.
Kinesio taping is similar to traditional athletic taping, in that it offers support to injured muscles and joints and decreases the risk of injury. It also has the ability to decrease swelling, stabilize joints, and re-train muscle firing patterns. Specific taping patterns can reduce pain and inflammation, correct posture, or promote lymphatic drainage. Kinesio taping uses a much more advanced material than regular taping: flexible, perfectly comfortable, and able to stay on for several days.
Elements of manual therapy are also practiced by physical therapists, massage therapists, athletic trainers, and others. Practitioners use their hands to apply pressure to muscle tissue and to manipulate joints. Manual therapy uses on muscles may involve working out “knots,” promoting the movement of lymphatic fluids, or helping to stretch tight areas. Manual therapy may also be targeted at joints, where it is used to increase range of motion, or loosen or tighten ligaments as needed.
It is important to re-strengthen muscles and correct movements that may be contributing to further injury. We create the right rehabilitative exercise program to improve your pain and help you contribute to healing yourself. Exercises are performed under staff supervision and taught in such a way that the patient can perform them at home. Your exercise plan will be uniquely formulated based on your strengths, weaknesses, lifestyle, and goals. Some of these methods may be the wrong fit for your unique case. We encourage patients to ask questions, so they can better understand their options.
